About Avian Ecology

Avian Ecology is a growing ecological consultancy delivering complex infrastructure and land-use projects across the UK, with a strong and expanding portfolio in renewable energy, infrastructure and land development.

As our Scotland team continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Senior Ecologist to join our Falkirk office. Working alongside our Technical Director, Associate and Principal Ecologists, you’ll play a key role in delivering a wide variety of ecological projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious ecologist looking to work on technically challenging projects, particularly within the renewable energy sector.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks (including but not limited to the following):

  • Managing and delivering ecological projects from survey through to reporting
  • Planning and undertaking a wide range of protected species and habitat surveys
  • Technical report writing including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments, alongside providing support for Habitat Regulations Assessments and Environmental Statement chapters
  • Designing survey strategies and advising clients on ecological constraints and opportunities
  • Assisting with fee proposals
  • Undertaking technical review of reports where appropriate
  • Working closely with senior colleagues on large infrastructure, renewable energy and EIA projects

Key Skills, Experience & Attributes

Essential:

  • Degree qualified in Ecology or a related discipline
  • Membership of CIEEM (desirable)
  • Significant ecological consultancy experience
  • Strong field survey experience across a range of habitats and protected species
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
  • Experience of EcIA and ecological assessment
  • Good working knowledge of UK ecological legislation and planning policy
  • Experience managing projects and liaising directly with clients
  • Ability to mentor junior staff and provide technical support
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Desirables:

  • Experience working on renewable energy or infrastructure projects
  • Experience of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
  • Protected species survey licences
  • Experience of Habitat Regulations Assessment
